What provides good dust and dirt pick up?
To achieve good dust and dirt pick up, you must have an efficient nozzle that creates the right combination of airflow and vacuum to remove as much dust and dirt particles from the floor surface as possible. It is also important to have an aerodynamically designed tube and hose system that is airtight, an airtight system in the canister itself and a high efficiency motor. When these 3 factors are working at optimal efficiency, cleaning results will be at their absolute best.
What role does wattage play?
High wattage is not necessarily an indicator of good performance. The wattage relates to the amount of electricity used and has no bearing on dust pick up.
What does suction power mean?
Suction power is the air pressure (vacuum) x the air flow (litres per second) measured in watts. A high suction power doesn’t necessarily indicate a good cleaning ability. To achieve good dust pick up, high suction power needs to be combined with an efficient nozzle, such as the AeroPro nozzle system.
What is the benefit of HEPA filtration?
A HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter traps fine dust particles that can trigger asthma and allergy symptoms. HEPA filters have different filtration levels - the higher the number of the filter, the more particles it screens out. It is also important that, in conjunction with the HEPA filter that the cleaner itself is air tight so that no dust particles can escape.
Why do I need different nozzles?
Different floor types require different nozzles to achieve optimum cleaning results.
When you are cleaning hard floors such as tiles or wooden floors, it is preferable to use a specialized ‘hard floor’ nozzle (sometimes known as a parquet or parketto nozzle) to ensure the best dust pick up.
Motorised nozzles, as the name suggests, are motor driven nozzles and that provide deep down carpet cleaning and grooming performance. Turbo nozzles are air driven nozzles which are perfect for getting down deep into carpet to extract the dirt. Combination nozzles allow you to clean both hard floor and carpet.
What does clogging mean?
Clogging occurs when dust particles get trapped in the filter or in the dust bag. When too much dust is trapped, the filter or dust bag becomes clogged and cleaning performance is reduced. Advanced dust bags such as the S-Bag, minimize clogging.
Why are soft wheels important?
Hard wheels may scratch timber floors so it is preferable to have soft wheels that won’t leave marks on hard floor surfaces. It also gives a nice quiet ride.
Why two big wheels in the rear and one small wheel in the front?
Big rear wheels enable the vacuum cleaner to manoeuvre better. The small wheel in front helps the cleaner to follow you rather than shooting off to the side. It also enables you to navigate easily around obstacles and move easily through high pile carpet and over cables etc.
What are accessories good for?
Most of our vacuum cleaners come with 3 types of accessories to help you clean:
1. Crevice nozzle: Good for narrow spaces like between furniture, or cushions on the couch
2. Upholstery nozzle: Perfect for cleaning textiles, furniture etc.
3. Soft bristle brush: Used for cleaning shelves and furniture without upholstery
It is useful to have accessories close at hand (preferably on the cleaner).
Why is cord length important?
A longer cord is more convenient as you need to plug and unplug less. To calculate the cleaning reach, you generally add 3 metres to the cord length, for example, with a 9 metre cord, (also taking into account the hose and tube) you have a 12 metre reach.
Do I have to clean the filters?
Vacuum cleaners come with an exhaust filter, a motor filter and, in the case of bagless cleaners, a dust container filter. These filters need to be maintained in order to get the best performance out of your vacuum.
How often should I clean or replace the filters?
Exhaust filters need to be replaced (or washed depending on the type of filter) every year. There are three types of exhaust filters; micro filters, HEPA non-washable filters and HEPA washable filters. Micro filters and HEPA non-washable filters can not be washed and must be replaced with new ones. Washable HEPA filters should be washed according to the instructions in the user manual.
The motor filter needs to be replaced when it is visually dirty in bagless vacuums or with every 5th replacement of the dust bag in bagged cleaners. The motor filter is not washable so it must always be replaced with a new one.
If you have a bagless vacuum, the dust container filter should be cleaned at every 5th emptying of the dust container or when the filter is visually dirty.
How do I know if the filter is washable?
On Electrolux vacuums, washable HEPA filters have a blue frame around them. Non washable filters have a green frame around them.
How do I know which dust bag to use?
Electrolux has developed one standard sized dust bag to fit all Electrolux vacuums - the S-Bag. With the S-Bag you no longer need to memorize model numbers and model code, just look for the S-Bag logo (insert here). There are different varieties of S-Bag depending on your cleaning requirements: the S-Bag Anti Allergy, S-Bag Classic Long Performance, S-Bag Anti Odour and the S-Bag Classic.

What does the noise figure on the vacuum mean?
A standard vacuum cleaner is 78 decibels while the quietest cleaner is 68 decibels which is the equivalent of normal conversation. Keep in mind that noise doubles every 3 decibels so there is quite a difference between 68 and 78 decibels! Electrolux measures its cleaners according to international standards.
